Systems, Structures, Signals

I am currently traveling the world as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow.

Every analytical framework we apply to make sense of our world operates both as a filter and a revelation. It simplifies by necessity, but it also helps us find patterns. To me, complexity and abstraction are parameters that we can tune depending on our values, questions, and capacity for understanding.

My own path has been eclectic by design with the creative arts, rigorous technical inquiry, and thoughtful social engagement. It has shown me the beauty of balance. Between logic and imagination, meticulousness and play, structure and surprise. I have grown keen to engage in complexity critically and efficiently to create different abstractions according to different lens I seek.

At present, I am asking how human narratives, both digital and interpersonal, can be translated into knowledge that matters. My interests currently span:

  • Deep learning, computational creativity, and co-creativity
  • Scaling laws and complex systems
  • Climate change mitigation through technology
  • The value of community and space for art and unstructured creativity
